SCHOOL ATTIRE

At Carden Country School, we believe school is a child’s business.  Children are therefore required to wear clothing appropriate to school and business.  Experience has shown that students tend to behave in school in accordance with their dress. Dress that is neat and tidy fosters thinking that is neat and tidy much more often than does alternative dress.  We are guided by Scripture: 1 Peter 3:3-4, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight,” and Mathew 6:28, “Why do you worry about clothes?”

The goals of our dress code are:

·         To foster a respectful, business-like attitude that encourages learning.

·         To eliminate distractions caused by clothing.

·         To ensure modesty.

Carden Country School selected Lands’ End to be the supplier of the uniform dress code beginning fall 2001.  The quality of Lands’ End merchandise is exceptional, long wearing, and guaranteed.  Carden Country School’s logo is available for embroidery on selected items.  Lands’ End for School catalogs and current uniform guidelines are available in the office.  Uniforms may be purchased by calling 1‑800‑469‑2222 or going online at www.landsend.com/school.  Please use the preferred school number for Carden Country School, 9000-4524-6, when you order.  This is a signal to Lands’ End to rebate 3% of the purchase price of your order to the school to be used for scholarships.

Uniform Guidelines effective Fall, 2004

·         The uniform includes anything from the Lands’ End for School catalog in any color shown except cargo pants, cargo shorts, gym clothes and T-shirts. Sweatshirts are permissible provided they include the embroidered Carden crest.

·         An embroidered evergreen sweater or vest, navy bottoms or jumper, a white shirt and white or navy socks are required dress at designated events.  Please include these items in your order.

In addition:

·            Closed-toe shoes are required for safety and practical school wear. Shoes must be worn properly, i.e. if the shoes have laces, the laces must be worn and tied.

·            Socks or tights must be worn at all times.

·            Bike shorts, tights, or leggings should be worn under skirts/dresses to ensure modesty.

·            Each student is required to have a pair of hard-soled shoes/slippers for indoor wear only.

·            Hairstyles and accessories must be clean and give a modest, tidy, well-groomed appearance. Extreme and faddish hairstyles are not in keeping with a business-like atmosphere and are not acceptable. Jewelry and other accessories should be practical for school play and should not be a distraction. Any accessory (including watches) that becomes a distraction will be held until the end of the day.

·            Noticeable make up on students is not necessary or allowed in our environment.

·            Students must dress appropriately for the weather, as they will be required to be outside up to 20 minutes daily.
